Outfit Highlight: Daisy Dukes…NOT!

I’ve stayed away from denim shorts because I naturally associate them with either daisy dukes or acid washed pleated shorts from the 80s, both of which bring back unpleasant memories. I have to say, though, that I’ve been seeing some really cute denim shorts outfits lately, which made me want to revisit the idea of purchasing one.

The updated denim shorts that I’ve been looking for definitely offer more coverage than daisy dukes and are more clean cut and relaxed. I found the perfect ones at the Gap, and they were on sale! They have a more relaxed fit and they’re cut-offs but with a longer inseam. Sometimes denim shorts can look overly casual, which is fine if that’s the look you’re going for but I wanted to dress them up a little bit so I added an eyelet button-down shirt and a classic navy blazer for a preppy chic look. The blazer worked out perfectly as temperatures cooled down a bit around here. And did I lie when I said that these Circus slip-ons were getting a lot of wear this summer? I wear them almost every day.

  14. This is such an adorable outfit! I would totally imitate this for a weekend look! You look gorgeous in these shorts..and i know what you mean by coverage, I seek the same,and thus its hard for me to buy denim shorts which are not daisy dukes or ripped apart, with a malfunction waiting to happen.

    i just bought denim shorts myself recently and my husband said, since i haven’t worn denim shorts in so long, thinks he said it’s not my style anymore. but i said i like it and how you’ve styled it is how i envisioned wearing the denim shorts myself 🙂
