Weekly Wisdom: 6 Ways to Fight the Blues

wisdom, truth, faith, God, Jesus Christ, Bible, Scripture, depression, the blues, fatigue

Has physical exhaustion ever left you feeling emotionally vulnerable and susceptible to an emotional breakdown? That’s how I felt last week. A combination of an increasingly busy schedule, disheartening family news and sleepless nights led me to feel not only physically depleted but also emotionally drained. I felt myself slowly withdrawing. I’ve been down this path before. We all feel the blues every now and again.

I realize that for some of us, depending on the circumstances, professional help is necessary when it comes to overcoming depression. Sometimes when you are spiraling down, it’s hard to come out of it without medical intervention. I’ve been there but I also know myself well enough that I can prevent it from going that far. I can choose to take some practical measures to help me stop the emotional downhill. I’m sharing six things that I always turn to in order to chase the blues away. Continue reading

Weekly Wisdom: Are You Smarter than a Donkey?

wisdom, truth, Bible, faith, God, Jesus Christ, obedience

The passage about Balaam and his donkey in Numbers 22:21-41 is one of the most interesting and comical passages I’ve read in the Bible. I don’t know about you but a talking donkey was not something I was expecting! Despite the amusing fable-like scenario, the message behind this passage is quite serious and real. We not only learn that God can use anyone or anything to bless His people or carry out His plan, but there are a couple of other truths that this passage revealed, about who I want to be and where I want to be, that convicted my heart. Weekly Wisdom: 10 Truths

10truths_r4

I had been studying the life of Moses with my local BSF group for the past nine months and our last meeting was this past Monday. I have never in my life enjoyed reading Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy as much as I did in these past several months. I have been overwhelmed with all the wisdom that I have gained from meditating on the passages in these books, discussing them with my small group, listening to the lecture and reading the notes. God did not hold back in pouring out His blessings thru His wisdom. And since God’s blessings are meant to be shared, I am sharing with you ten truths that have convicted my heart during these nine months of studying the life of Moses, and hopefully they will touch a chord in your heart as well. Weekly Wisdom: His Grace is Enough

wisdom, truth, faith, grace, God, Bible, Jesus, Your Grace is Enough

“Wake up, girls! It’s time to get up and get ready for church!” I yell out as I walk down the hallway towards the girls’ bedrooms. I hear a faint “okay” followed by moans. Seeing that the girls have started to move about, I go back to my room to start getting ready myself. A few minutes later, my middle one shuffles in and asks, “What should I wear?” I tell her to just pick out a long-sleeve top and a pair of leggings. She says (whines) that she wants to wear a skirt and needs my help. I follow her back to her room and run thru several outfits, going back and forth between her non-stop whining and me doing my best to maintain my cool. I finally just step away and tell her to figure something out. After prodding me for more suggestions, she finally settles on an outfit and goes downstairs. Continue reading

Weekly Wisdom: You Are God’s Masterpiece

God, Christ, Bible, faith, truth, Psalm 139, Ephesians 2:10

You have searched me, Lord, and you know me. You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar. You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways. Before a word is on my tongue, you Lord, know it completely. You hem me in behind and before, and you lay your hand upon me. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too lofty for me to attain… For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place, when I was woven together in the depths of the earth. ~Psalm 139:1-6; 13-15

This passage from Psalm 139 is one of my favorite passages in the Bible. It’s beyond my comprehension that a God so awesome and majestic knows me so intimately. How amazing is it to know that God created each one of us with the utmost love and care and that He is familiar with all of our ways. Every part of us was made with meaning and purpose. No part of us is an accident. Continue reading

Weekly Wisdom: Have Courage and Be Kind

Cinderella, Weekly Wisdom, truth, faith, Bible, inspiration, God, Jesus

We took our girls to see Cinderella over spring break last week. I don’t know why but Cinderella has always been my favorite Disney fairy tale, so I was pretty excited to see the remake of the old classic myself. To my surprise, outside of some live-action scenes and special effects, this new version stayed pretty close to the original storyline. From a purely entertainment standpoint, one might say that the storyline was a little lacking. There were no new angles to the story, no surprise twists or even a modern spin to it. For me personally, it was a pleasant surprise because the purity of the story’s message remained intact and in some ways became more apparent. Even though Cinderella is not a Christian movie per se, I was able to take away from it a few nuggets of wisdom that made me think of truths from Scripture. Continue reading

Weekly Wisdom: “I Don’t Need My Name in Lights”

Weekly Wisdom

Happy Hump Day, my friends!

If you’ve been following my blog, you might know that I’ve attempted (quite sadly) to share weekly nuggets of wisdom from my study of Scripture during the season of Lent. I’m not sure if many of you actually read them, I just know that I was glad to share them. Even if my words encouraged or even just provoked a thought in a single soul, I’m happy.

I thought I would continue to share little nuggets of wisdom on a regular basis in my Weekly Wisdom series. When I started this blog, it was meant to be an outlet for sharing about all of my current passions. Knowing full well that my greatest source of joy and blessings is my faith in God, it would not feel right not to share the blessings with you.  Continue reading
