Favorite Fall Trends Roundup

Fall is coming to an end and winter is fast approaching, which means it’s time for my fall trends roundup! This is becoming one of my favorite posts to work on because I get to showcase my favorite trends of the season and my favorite bloggers sporting those trends. I have to say though, it’s not an easy task, especially because there are so many bloggers and outfits that I’d like to feature. It’s hard to narrow them down to just a handful. Well, I guess there is always next time.

How can I not talk about the blanket scarf? It’s like not talking about the elephant in the room. Everyone and their cousin owns a plaid blanket scarf, especially the one I’m wearing above. It’s the Zara scarf turned Target, Forever 21, ASOS, etc, etc, etc…scarf. But how can you blame us? It’s just one of those must-have items. I was glad to see blanket scarves in different colors and patterns as well. I love Bethany’s dark plaid scarf against her bright cobalt blue sweater. Tatiana’s houndstooth scarf is so classy and I fell head over heels for Mahshid’s grid print scarf. Continue reading

Outfit Highlight: Floral and Leather

Betsey Johnson floral dress, Express (minus the) leather moto jacket, Zara booties, cobalt blue, holiday outfit
Happy Monday, my friends!

Can you believe there are only ten days left until Christmas?! Panic has officially set in. I still have shopping left to do, gifts to wrap, parties to prepare for…aaargh! What I really need to do is step back and focus on the real meaning of Christmas, being thankful for all of my blessings and thinking of ways to bless others.

My plan was to wear this outfit ‘as is’ to my husband’s work Christmas party. At the very last minute, I swapped the booties with pointed toe heels and the leather jacket with a structured blazer. My husband’s industry is a little more conservative so my second choice felt more appropriate. But that doesn’t mean I can’t wear this outfit to other parties. Continue reading

Hiro to the Rescue: Your Bad Hair Days Are Over!

Salon Hiro, Chicago hair stylist, Yuko, straight perm, natural looking highlights, healthy shiny hair, best hair stylist in Chicago, hair doctor

Psst! Hey ladies, I have a secret to tell you. If left untouched, my hair is really wavy and frizzy. I was born with silky straight hair but once I hit puberty, my hair started to grow out into a thick uncontrollable wavy mane. But that’s a whole other story. If you look at my blog pictures, besides the loose curls from a curling iron, my hair is pretty straight. So how did I turn my untamed frizzy mane into silky smooth tresses, you ask? Well, first let me say I get my hair straightened with the Yuko Hair Straightening System, which is a process of chemically straightening your hair, also known as a straight perm. Yuko treated hair remains straight until new hair grows out. There are several other straightening systems out there but Yuko is one of the originals and the one I’ve used for the past 7-8 years or so. Continue reading

Outfit Highlight: All About Those Boots

Banana Republic sweater, Born Roxie boots, orange sweater

Happy Monday, everyone!

This past week was one of those weeks I wished we had more hours in a day and more days in a week. Between school events, planning for my youngest one’s birthday party, trying to do some Christmas shopping and working on some house maintenance, there really wasn’t much time for anything else. I really just want to hibernate. I envy the bears.

Anyway, enough about me! Today it’s all about those tan boots I mentioned I was hunting for here. I finally found the ones! Continue reading

Recipe Highlight: Potatoes Three Ways

Potatoes3Ways_collage
After this past Thanksgiving weekend, you probably swore off mashed potatoes and cheesy potatoes for the rest of the year. Well, Christmas is coming up in a few weeks and a potato side dish is unavoidable. If you’re hosting, you’re probably serving some kind of protein, and you’ll most likely serve a starchy potato dish along with it. It’s just the way it is. If you’re tired of the usual potato dishes you make every year, I have three simple recipes that will help get you out of your potato rut. Although a couple of these require a couple of extra steps, they’re very easy-to-follow recipes and you won’t regret taking the time to try them out. Continue reading

Express scuba leggings, moto leggings, oversized sweater, Trouve, blue booties, cobalt blue bag, teal green sweater, winter uniform
Happy Cyber Monday!

Did you have a relaxed Thanksgiving break with lots of family time or did you spend your time fighting the crowd at the mall? I chose the former with some online shopping squeezed in between. I, for one, could not resist the 50% off sale at Express. I ordered a whole bunch of things, including these Quilted Zipper Scuba leggings. Love them! Continue reading

Black Friday Sales

Happy Black Friday!

I don’t dare set foot in a mall on Black Friday. I just don’t do well with crowds. They bring out the worst in me, so I stay away. But that doesn’t mean I forego shopping on the biggest sales day of the year. Quite the opposite. I do all my shopping in the comfort of my own home, in my PJs with a laptop and coffee in hand. I thought I’d share some of my picks from my favorite stores with you while I’m at it. Enjoy! Continue reading

High on the Word: Thankful for the Ultimate Gift

High on the Word - Thankful for the Ultimate Gift

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!

On this Thanksgiving Day, I thought I’d share a few truths that I was reminded of while studying the life of Moses with my local BSF group for the past few months. For these truths, I am truly thankful.

We have followed Moses’ journey with God from the time Moses was called to lead the people out of Egypt through the trials and triumphs they faced as he led the people to the promised land. As the Israelites followed Moses in this journey, it was by no means an easy ride, they experienced a lot of bumps in the road as well as unexpected delays and detours along the way. Despite the fact that God showed the people His awesome power thru some major jaw-dropping miracles, provided for all their needs and then some, and never left their side with His steadfast guidance, the minute they were faced with a difficulty, they were quick to complain and lose faith in God.
