It seems like everywhere we go nowadays, whether it’s the grocery store or a local restaurant, we can always find a food, dish or beverage that comes with the “power” label. I’m always buying power greens at the grocery store, I’v tried an array of bottled power juices and I couldn’t resist the green power smoothie at the local Panera. I’m not sure about the validity of the “power” claim but in general, most of these foods have a high level of nutritional value. All I know is that it can’t be bad. So I decided to come up with a quick and easy power salad that I can whip up in no time and enjoy at least 2-3 times a week. Continue reading
Weekly Wisdom: You Are God’s Masterpiece
You have searched me, Lord, and you know me. You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar. You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways. Before a word is on my tongue, you Lord, know it completely. You hem me in behind and before, and you lay your hand upon me. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too lofty for me to attain… For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place, when I was woven together in the depths of the earth. ~Psalm 139:1-6; 13-15
This passage from Psalm 139 is one of my favorite passages in the Bible. It’s beyond my comprehension that a God so awesome and majestic knows me so intimately. How amazing is it to know that God created each one of us with the utmost love and care and that He is familiar with all of our ways. Every part of us was made with meaning and purpose. No part of us is an accident. Continue reading
Outfit Highlight: How to Wear a Skirt Set
Happy Monday, my friends!
We finally reached temps in the 70s a couple of days ago and I feel alive again! And of course I had to take advantage of the weather and squeeze in a photo shoot. So I’ve never been a huge fan of matching sets whether they’d be pant suits, skirt suits or a skirt set. Depending on the silhouette and style, they can look a little too matchy matchy or a bit like a uniform. I’ve been seeing a surge of skirt sets lately in all shapes and styles and I don’t know if it’s because of the variety of prints, textures or silhouettes, but I find myself paying more attention to them as I have with this Banana Republic skirt set. I love the silhouette of this skirt set and the comfort factor sealed the deal. If you’ve been following me, you know comfort is high on my priority list. Continue reading
Weekly Wisdom: Have Courage and Be Kind
We took our girls to see Cinderella over spring break last week. I don’t know why but Cinderella has always been my favorite Disney fairy tale, so I was pretty excited to see the remake of the old classic myself. To my surprise, outside of some live-action scenes and special effects, this new version stayed pretty close to the original storyline. From a purely entertainment standpoint, one might say that the storyline was a little lacking. There were no new angles to the story, no surprise twists or even a modern spin to it. For me personally, it was a pleasant surprise because the purity of the story’s message remained intact and in some ways became more apparent. Even though Cinderella is not a Christian movie per se, I was able to take away from it a few nuggets of wisdom that made me think of truths from Scripture. Continue reading
Outfit Highlight: Spring Casual
Hope your week is off to a good start. I wish I could say the same about my photo shoot yesterday. Have you ever had one of those days where the elements just didn’t seem to be working with you? Well, I had such a day yesterday where everything from the wind to the sun just refused to cooperate. I don’t even know how I was able to come up with a few decent photos to share with you.
I’m obsessed with these Forever 21 loafers. Continue reading
Weekly Wisdom: “I Don’t Need My Name in Lights”
Happy Hump Day, my friends!
If you’ve been following my blog, you might know that I’ve attempted (quite sadly) to share weekly nuggets of wisdom from my study of Scripture during the season of Lent. I’m not sure if many of you actually read them, I just know that I was glad to share them. Even if my words encouraged or even just provoked a thought in a single soul, I’m happy.
I thought I would continue to share little nuggets of wisdom on a regular basis in my Weekly Wisdom series. When I started this blog, it was meant to be an outlet for sharing about all of my current passions. Knowing full well that my greatest source of joy and blessings is my faith in God, it would not feel right not to share the blessings with you. Continue reading
Outfit Highlight: Lovely in Lilac
Happy Monday! Hope everyone had a good Easter.
Unlike past Easters, I was actually able to wear the outfit that I had planned to wear. I purchased this lilac circle skirt a while back at Nordstrom because I loved the way it fit. I was also intrigued by the color because I had never purchased a skirt in lilac, aka as violet, lavender, mauve, or light purple. Unfortunately, it just didn’t seem to pair well with any of the tops that I had in mind. I tried neutrals like black and white and I also tried to stay within the same hue but it just didn’t seem to work, so I just tucked it away in my closet for another day. Then I spotted the color lilac featured in different magazines and blogs and it was being paired with all sorts of different colors. Continue reading
Weekly Wisdom – Matthew 11:28-30 | Rest for the Soul
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” ~ Matthew 11:28-30
I’ve always found these words from Jesus very comforting. He invites all of us who are weary and burdened to come to Him and find rest because His yoke is easy and His burden is light. But I can’t help but wonder what these words really mean, especially the last verse of this passage. I was always told that being a Christian is not always easy. As Christians, we are called to pick up our cross and follow Christ and by doing so we are not necessarily choosing the easiest path. And yet Jesus says that His yoke is easy and His burden is light.
