Slip-ons…oh how I’ve missed you! We finally reached temperatures in the 40s over the weekend. I kid you not, there are people going around in shorts as if we’re having beach weather. It’s not quite warm enough to be wearing shorts for me but I did not hesitate to break out my Vans slip-ons. I just couldn’t wait to wear them again.
This is the thing, we’re less than two weeks away from spring but it sure doesn’t look like spring is just around the corner in these parts. My mind, however, has already bid farewell to winter, so I’m trying to forego the heavy winter coat the minute I get the chance. But how do you stay warm in 40 degree weather without a winter coat? Say hello to layering.
There was a time when I used to avoid layering because I thought it made everything look bulky and it made me look fat. That’s because I just didn’t know how to layer, or how to do it right. I have not, by any means, mastered the art of layering, but I’ve definitely improved my layering skills over the years thru trial and error and inspiration from others. Below are just a few simple tips on how to make layering work for chilly spring days.
PS. I wanted to send a huge thanks to the team over at You Look Fab for featuring my mom-on-the-go style on their blog recently. If you don’t already follow YLF, I would highly recommend you do so asap. I love absolutely everything about this look!
This is such a cute outfit! I did a lot of layering like this during winter, but with a vest instead of a blazer. This looks really sharp! I’m ready to shed my winter layers too. It’s going to be in the 60-70 this week here!
Thank you so much for the shout-out, Cynthia! We adore your fab and creative Mum-on-the-Go style!
This is such a fun outfit. You had me at the stripes, really, as I’m a huge stripes fan myself;-) I’m also inspired by the way you incorporate jewellery into your daily outfits, and the green satchel is such a lovely finishing touch.
Adore this blazer, I really need a nice one asap.

You did a fantastic job layering here. I would definitely not have thought to put all of those pieces together and the slip ons are such a cool touch!
Gina – On the Daily Express
This is such a cute laid back look! Our temps hit the 60s yesterday and I was one of those outside in shorts haha, but I blame it on the fact that I’m huge, pregnant and hot! I was just around the house so no one saw me acting crazy, ha!

I am loving the pop of chambray and stripes here. Yay for spring coming!!

Great layers! I am so ready for slip ons! It was almost 60 here this weekend, and I wore sandals just because I could even thought it wasn’t really warm enough. My toes were just ready!

I definitely think there is an art to layering. Some pieces have to be thinner, other fuller. You definitely nailed it Cynthia. Love those slip-on sneakers.
I shall call you queen of the layers! Love how you broke it down. I’m obsessed with this whole look!
The cardigan over the tee is the best part. I think that’s why you always do layering so well. Sending warm weather vibes your way!
I love slip ons too! I can’t wait to wear them! I love this casual and layered outfit!

Love this layering and might copy you tomorrow, I have all of those pieces and love them together!
Your layering looks like perfection! Thanks for sharing with Visible Monday, xo.
Great look! Love the layers and those shoes!

Great look all together. And apparently, great minds think alike (very similar outfit I just posted). I just read an article about the “rule of 3” where you’re supposed to wear at least 3 items on top to make your whole look more interesting. So, I’m all about more pieces!

PERFECT layering!
I saw someone wearing a short-sleeved shirt whilst walking their dog yesterday afternoon. Man, we Michiganders are a hardy bunch aren’t we? This snow is going to melt soon and we are going to be complaining about the humidity soon. 🙂
I love these layers! The stripes and chambray go so well together.

Yes! This is the perfect layered look. It’s a very sleek look. We had a lot of our snow melt over the last few days. I almost got my slip ons out, but I was too afraid of all of the puddles. There is nothing worse than wet feet when it’s still a bit chilly.
Love your layering here Cynthia! You know I love a great casual chic look so this is right up my alley. I’m looking forward to wearing slip-ons and sandals too, I’m so done with boots. Hope you are having a great day:)

You layer amazing! I love the stripes with the chambray shirt. I can never layer without looking ‘puffy’ as per my husbands words! You look amazing and sleek!
Nailed it!!! Seriously, another favorite of mine…your incorporated pieces most of us all have hanging and it’s so effortless and chic. Great inspiration!! I want to recreate ASAP!
