Outfit Highlight: A Dress from Play Date to Date Night

Rhea Et Cetera, Addison Boarding School dress, blue dress, tunic, spring layers, layered necklaces, play date look, date night look, collared dress, BCBGeneration studded heels, Converse Chuck Taylors, Gap denim jacket, BCBG structured jacket

Happy Monday, my friends!

This is a very special post. I’m so excited to announce the launch of a new boutique by RheaEtCetera.com! Yes, you read it right. You can now visit RheaEtCetera.com to shop for the latest and greatest in skirts and dresses. I have always admired people who pursue their dreams and actually make it happen. So when my friend Rhea asked me to participate in her boutique launch, I was not only ecstatic for her but I was honored to be a part of it. Read more about her journey here.

It was hard to pick out a single item that I wanted to feature because there were so many cute skirts and dresses to choose from but when I saw this Addison Boarding School dress, I knew right away that it was versatile enough that I could wear it for more than one season and more than one occasion. Weekly Wisdom – Ephesians 4:2 | Humility

lent15_weeklywisdom

I have learned over the years that there is nothing more beautiful than true humility. Unfortunately, it is a quality that is hard to find in this world in this day and age. We live in a culture where the proud, the selfish and the self-centered often seem to get ahead. Whether unknowingly or not, we often condone or even encourage self-promotion and a “me first” attitude as virtues. The Bible clearly says otherwise. Just to quote a few verses:

Psalm 18:27
You save the humble but bring low those whose eyes are haughty.
Psalm 138:6
Though the Lord is exalted, he looks kindly on the lowly; though lofty, he sees them from afar.
Proverbs 3:34
He mocks proud mockers and shows favor to the humble and oppressed.
Proverbs 29:23
Pride brings a person low, but the lowly in spirit gain honor.
Matthew 18:4
Therefore, whoever takes the lowly position of this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.
Matthew 19:30
But many who are first will be last, and many who are last will be first.

Outfit Highlight: A Pink Coat and a Quilted Bag

IMG_7447r1

I’m back to layering, my friends. Temperatures were in the 30s and 40s this past weekend. Who’s surprised? Noboby! Needless to say, I’m not too excited about the weather but I am ecstatic about my pink coat and Rebecca Minkoff bag. These are two items that I’ve been wanting to add to my wardrobe for a while.

Besides the fact that I’m crushing on anything pink these days, I always find myself swooning over pink coats and jackets whenever I see them, but I’ve been telling myself that they’re impractical. When I saw this coat on clearance at Forever 21, I had no more excuses. The price was right, it was just the right shade of pink and light enough for chilly spring days. I just love the softness that it adds to this monochrome outfit. Continue reading

Recipe Highlight: Vietnamese Rice Noodle Bowl (Bun Thit Nuong)

IMG_7374r1

I’m sure most of you know or heard of Sandra Lee of Semi-Homemade, a cooking show on the Food Network. I may not necessarily be jumping up to try all of the recipes featured on her show but I certainly agree with her motto, “Keep it simple. Keep it smart. Keep it semi-homemade.” With a busy schedule and a penchant for eating but not necessarily cooking, keeping things quick, easy and semi-homemade has been my way of cutting down on time in the kitchen. I just don’t think it’s worth my time to slave over a recipe to make everything from scratch and having the outcome be “meh” a lot of the times. Outfit Highlight: Foxy Polka Dots

IMG_7292r1

Happy Monday indeed, my friends! It was nice and sunny yesterday and it’s supposed to go up to the mid-60s today. Yay!

I’m so happy about this outfit because there is not a single recent purchase in this entire ensemble. I did some closet revival over the weekend and came up with this brand new combo. My favorite part of this polka dot shirt are the cute little red-tailed foxes interspersed with the white polka-dots. One of my best finds at the Gap. And the red cropped military style jacket from Club Monaco was my first Poshmark purchase. I still remember being super excited about getting it for $15! And do you know how excited I am about wearing a skirt without tights? I can’t even tell you. Continue reading

Favorite Winter Trends Roundup

Winter is not over yet but I am so ready to do my favorite winter trends roundup. I have to say, winter is not an easy season for bloggers, especially those of us who live in colder climates. Taking photos outdoors in freezing weather is not my idea of fun and neither my husband’s, my reluctant photographer. So major props to all you ladies who braved thru the frigid temperatures to inspire the rest of us with your amazing outfits.

For this season, I thought I’d do a roundup of my favorite winter essentials. We can’t live without layering, coats, boots, cardigans and scarves in the winter. It was so much fun to see how you ladies styled these basic winter staples and took them to another level. Again, it was super hard to narrow all my favorites down to the few below.

Outfit Highlight: The Art of Layering

J.Crew Regent blazer, Zara stripe tee, Gap chambray shirt, Gap Always Skinny jeans, Kate Spade crossbody, Vans slip-ons, layering
Slip-ons…oh how I’ve missed you! We finally reached temperatures in the 40s over the weekend. I kid you not, there are people going around in shorts as if we’re having beach weather. It’s not quite warm enough to be wearing shorts for me but I did not hesitate to break out my Vans slip-ons. I just couldn’t wait to wear them again.

This is the thing, we’re less than two weeks away from spring but it sure doesn’t look like spring is just around the corner in these parts. My mind, however, has already bid farewell to winter, so I’m trying to forego the heavy winter coat the minute I get the chance. But how do you stay warm in 40 degree weather without a winter coat? Say hello to layering. Continue reading
