Weekly Wisdom: No Matter What…I’m Bankrupt Without Love

wisdom, faith, love, God, Jesus Christ, Bible, 1 Corinthians 13:3

If you were told that you had one week to live, what would you do with your time left here on earth? Who or what would you want to see during the final days of your life? And how many people do you think would come to say goodbye? When Moses was told by God that he would die soon, before entering the Promised Land, Moses’ main concern was to make sure the people of Israel had a shepherd after he was gone. He loved his people so much that even in his final days, all he cared about was their well being. Moses knew what love was and he knew how to love.

In his book, The Purpose Driven Life, Rick Warren states that he has been at the bedside of many people in their final moments and that he’s never had anyone ask to see their achievements, diplomas, medals and awards, one more time before they die. Instead, they want to be surrounded by people they love. You can’t take achievements and accomplishments with you to heaven but love stays with you forever. He goes on to explain that God is love and one of our main purposes here on earth is to learn how to love.

And how do we learn how to love? Continue reading

Outfit Highlight: The Statement Necklace

statement necklace, cobalt blue top, J.Crew scuba skirt, Banana Republic clutch, tie up sandals
Happy Monday, my dear friends!

After a couple of days of torrential rain, temperatures cooled down quite a bit over the weekend. I thought it was the perfect time to wear this soft and cozy short-sleeve knit top that I’ve been dying to wear. Although I have to admit I could have used a cozy jacket as well. It was that chilly! Wearing this top is akin to wearing your favorite comfy sweatshirt. This top paired with my J.Crew scuba skirt takes comfort to a whole new level.

But how do you make these two “sweats-like” items look chic and stylish instead of plain and unpolished? Continue reading

Recipe Highlight: Slow-Roasted Chipotle Salmon with Pineapple Rice and Mango Salsa

Slow-Roasted Chipotle Salmon with Pineapple Rice and Mango Salsa

I try to cook a fish dish for dinner almost every week. I don’t know too many kids that love fish but I’m hoping that if I keep it on regular rotation in our menu, my kids’ palates will eventually warm up to it or at least get used to it. I think the key to having them actually eat the fish is by adding either a sauce or a topping that they like. In this case, the salmon is glazed with a slightly spicy chipotle sauce. Surprisingly, my girls are starting to enjoy mildly spicy food. To add a little more appeal to the dish, I paired the salmon with pineapple rice. As a topping, I made a mango salsa. My girls may pick out a few items off of the salsa but at least they don’t reject it completely, thanks to the mango.

The way this salmon is cooked in the original recipe* produces a very soft and tender texture, which I love. However, I also love a nice seared crust on my salmon so I modified the recipe a little bit and seared both sides of the salmon before throwing it in the oven. You do lose a bit of the tenderness but that’s a trade I’m willing to make. Continue reading

Weekly Wisdom: The Race of Your Life

God's Word, Scripture, faith, truth, wisdom, Hebrews 12

I confess, I have been out of focus lately, feeling a little out of sync, as if I’ve lost my sense of direction. I feel like a ship that has lost sight of the lighthouse and is being tossed around by the waves, slowly drifting away from its intended path. Ever since BSF ended in the beginning of this month, I have not been consistent with meditating on or digging deep into Scripture, and I feel the difference. Knowing how amazing it can be when I dwell in God’s Word, being able to discern His urgings more clearly, and experience Him working within and around me, there’s really no other place I’d rather be and all I want is to get back in God’s path. Just like Moses and the Israelites, I want to follow His cloud by day and His pillar of fire by night, and have a sense of direction as I live out my God-given purpose in this life. Continue reading

How to Wear Chambray in Every Season

chambray_everyday_text
Who doesn’t like a good chambray? It seems like anywhere you look, chambray is the common denominator in a variety of outfits. Its versatility makes it a must-have closet staple for every fashionista. It goes with pretty much anything and can be worn in all seasons. It’s a given that chambray is one of the go-to items during the fall and winter seasons since it’s great for layering. But I find myself reaching for it even in the warmer weather seasons especially since it comes in different styles and weights.

In case you were wondering, chambray is a lightweight plain-weave cloth initially made of linen but later applied to cotton and even silk. It typically comes in blue but can come in any color. What’s the difference between chambray and denim, you ask? Continue reading

Weekly Wisdom: 6 Ways to Fight the Blues

wisdom, truth, faith, God, Jesus Christ, Bible, Scripture, depression, the blues, fatigue

Has physical exhaustion ever left you feeling emotionally vulnerable and susceptible to an emotional breakdown? That’s how I felt last week. A combination of an increasingly busy schedule, disheartening family news and sleepless nights led me to feel not only physically depleted but also emotionally drained. I felt myself slowly withdrawing. I’ve been down this path before. We all feel the blues every now and again.

I realize that for some of us, depending on the circumstances, professional help is necessary when it comes to overcoming depression.
